PORT HURON, MI — Police have identified the father and son who died after an apparent murder-suicide at a Port Huron home.
Robert William Lagrow, 35, and his 6-year-old son Weston Keith Lagrow, both of Port Huron, were found inside the home by police. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers with the Port Huron Police Department responded around 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 to a home in the 3000 block of Cooper Avenue for a welfare check.
Port Huron Police Capt. Marcy Kuehn said the mother of the child made the call for the welfare check.
“A preliminary investigation shows evidence that a handgun was used in what appears to be a murder-suicide,” reads a statement from Port Huron police.
Kuehn said it’s believed the father shot the son, then shot himself.
“The Port Huron Police Department expresses our deepest condolences to the family, friends and students who are dealing with this senseless tragedy,” the department’s statement notes.
A Port Huron Times-Herard report says the boy was a student at Garfield Elementary School.
Jamie Cain, superintendent of Port Huron Area Schools, said in a statement to MLive-The Flint Journal: “We have supports in place for the entire school community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
The St. Clair County Medical Examiner’s Office has been contacted and will make the final ruling on the cause of death.
