The man was involved in a collision with the HGV at about 12.50pm on Thursday (October 10) on the northbound side and suffered a serious head injury.

He was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting by Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance which sent a crew to the scene alongside crews from South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The A322 was closed in both directions just before 1pm and remained closed northbound as of 4.30pm. The southbound side had partially reopened by that time however lane closures remained in place.

Traffic on the A322 has been heavily congested as a result, and particularly near the roundabout junction with the M3, close to where the crash happened.

Surrey Police advised drivers in a tweet to avoid the area if possible, as surrounding roads were affected by traffic also.

The A322 Bracknell Road, north of the crash, was heavily congested, however the A30 through Bagshot village was coping relatively well – some heavy traffic in London Road was partly down to roadworks taking place nearby, according to a member of staff at Sunrise Bagshot, an assisted living residence in London Road.

Surrey Police suggested in a statement at about 4.30pm that the man was trying to cross the road when the incident happened. It read: “We’re asking anyone who saw a man trying to cross the A322 at Bagshot this lunchtime (Thursday, October 10), to contact us.

“At 12.52pm we were called to a collision on the A322, close to the M3 roundabout, between a pedestrian and a lorry on the northbound carriageway.

“The pedestrian is being treated for a serious head injury and he has been taken by helicopter to hospital.

“Partial lane closures are in place on the southbound section of the road and a full closure is in place northbound from the roundabout at the M3 junction. They are expected to remain in place until this evening.
