The person, understood to be a man however ambulance service logs could not confirm this, was found in the town centre park at about 7.50am on Wednesday (October 9).

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and Sussex Police were called and an ambulance crew treated the man at the scene before taking him to Southgate Playing Fields for further treatment.
It was here that a crew from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance landed in a helicopter.

The patient was taken to St George’s Hospital in the helicopter, which took off from the playing fields shortly after 9am.

A spokesman for SECAmb said: “We were called to reports that a person had collapsed in Memorial Gardens and that was around 7.50am. The air ambulance landed at Southgate park and that was the rendezvous point with our air ambulance colleagues.

“The patient was treated at the scene before being flown to St George’s Hospital in Tooting in a serious condition.”

Sussex Police confirmed it was aware of the incident and officers initially attended, but was unable to provide further information as it was a medical incident that did not require police intervention.
