Jerri Nesbitt of the Eaton County Sheriff’s office, tells NEWS 10 that as of noon on Thursday morning, the 6-year-old boy from the fatal crash is in stable condition at Sparrow Hospital.

Nesbitt said she was told, ‘he had a good night.”

Eaton County Undersheriff Jeff Cook says the buggy was struck from behind Wednesday as it traveled along Vermontville Highway near Charlotte in southern Michigan.

Cook says emergency responders arrived at the crash to find three of the children dead and a fourth seriously injured.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital and examined for potential injuries.

The buggy was traveling west on Vermontville Highway when the car ran into it from behind at 3:19 p.m. on Sept. 18.

Authorities believe the buggy was on the way home from an Amish school when the crash happened.

“We’re trying to do everything we can through our victim advocates, through our support personnel to provide as much aid and comfort as we can to them and help them deal with horrific tragedy. it’s an unspeakable loss for any parent to lose their children in a manner like this is just difficult to imagine,” Jeffery Cook, Eaton County undersheriff said.

Police said the children were all siblings from a local family, ages 6, 8, 10, and 13.

The six-year-old is said to have a head and leg injury, according to Nesbitt. She added that it is unclear where he was sitting in the buggy when the accident occurred.

“It is difficult to find words to describe this horrific tragedy. Our hearts and prayers go out to the parents who are enduring such unimaginable loss and grief, and also to their extended family and close community. Our Victim Advocates are assisting the family, and we will continue to provide our support and resources. We grieve with them,” Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich said.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.

Nesbitt said the family would like their privacy respected at this time.
