Brown and Jefferies formed a formidable managerial partnership at four clubs having been friends since their school days.

As well as at Tynecastle where they won the Scottish Cup in 1988, Brown was assistant to Jefferies, 68, at Falkirk, Bradford City and Kilmarnock.

The former defender has revealed his old sidekick is in a stable condition after having a stent put in.

And he has thanked medics for bringing him back to life.

Jefferies is on the mend

Brown told Record Sport: “I spoke to Jim on Friday when he was playing golf and he said he felt unwell then.

“That was the start of it clearly.

“I got a phone call from somebody that worked on the course and they told me Jim had collapsed.

“I got an almighty shock.

“Jim’s son phoned me a wee while after that and told me exactly what had happened.

“Jim is OK but he actually died in the ambulance.

“I have to say fair play to the medical team as they brought him back to life.

“Jim has had a stent put in and he is doing fine now. Once the stents are put in they seem to stabilise people and thankfully that seems to be the case with Jim.”
