A Belvedere man has been arrested in connection with a boating accident that killed his 11-year-old son near Angel Island, Tiburon police said.

Javier A. Burillo, 57, was booked into Marin County Jail on Sunday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with a vessel; willful harm or injury to a child; and operating a boat while under the influence. His bail was set at $1 million.

It was reported at 7 p.m. Sunday that two victims who were passengers on a 35-foot Protector — a rigid-hull inflatable boat — were thrown overboard in open waters near Angel Island, Tiburon police Chief Mike Cronin said. The two then were reportedly struck by the boat.

The second victim, 27, is also Burillo’s son.

Both were pulled aboard and taken to the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon.

The 11-year-old, whose name is not being released, was pronounced dead at the yacht club docks, authorities said.

The 27-year-old suffered cuts to his leg and was taken to Marin General Hospital.

It was not immediately known whether the brothers were wearing life jackets.
