Authorities said Martin, who was from Lexington, S.C., was riding a BMW motorcycle on the southbound on-ramp from Vista Way when he crashed for unknown reasons. He was struck by the Ford F-150 pickup near Las Flores Drive.

The driver of that truck, a 42-year-old Oceanside woman who was not injured, “quickly came to a stop” after the collision, CHP Officer Kevin Smale said.

“Firefighters and paramedics lifted the truck off of (Martin) and moved him onto the shoulder, off the roadway,” the Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement. “He was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The Marine, who resided in Oceanside and was six days shy of his 20th birthday, was pronounced dead at 7:04 a.m. of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to Camp Pendleton officials, Martin joined the Marine Corps in July 2018. He was attached to the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
