Top Gear’s Freddie Flintoff speaks out after accident on set – digitalspy.com

Top Gear co-presenter Freddie Flintoff is assuring fans that he is okay after being involved in a serious mishap on set.

Flintoff was driving a super-powered Time Bandit at Elvington Airfield earlier this week for an upcoming segment, when his trike overshot the runway to careen onto the nearby grass.

According to The Mirror, an on-set ambulance was deployed to check Flintoff over but he was given the all-clear to resume filming on Top Gear on Wednesday (September 11).

“I’m absolutely fine and was back filming today,” Flintoff has since said in a statement. “I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag races but on this occasion I went a few lengths too far.

“It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV.”

The incident occurred on the same site where former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond was injured in a mishap while driving a jet-powered car at 288mph back in 2006.

A BBC spokesperson responded to Flintoff’s accident by insisting that “health and safety” remains a top priority for the Top Gear crew.

“As viewers of the recent series will have seen, Freddie is often keen to get ‘off the beaten track’,” they said.

“Tuesday’s filming at Elvington Airfield was no exception – but he suffered no injuries as a result of his spontaneous detour, as fans will see for themselves when we show the sequence in full in the next series.”

Freddie and the Top Gear team will be back on screens for a Christmas special, and then for the upcoming 28th series.
