An emergency situation saw the air ambulance land on a school field.

Paramedics from Great North Air Ambulance were sent to Nunthorpe at 8.45am on Thursday.

They landed on playing fields at Chandler’s Ridge Primary School, on Chandlers Ridge – but staff issued an alert telling parents the incident was not connected to the school.

The message to parents and carers said: “Please rest assured there is no cause for concern to the school and its pupils.”

North East Ambulance Service said it requested assistance from the air ambulance after an emergency inside a private address.

A spokeswoman for the service said: “We were called to a private address at Nunthorpe at 8.39am.

“We dispatched a rapid response paramedic, a double crewed ambulance and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance.”

A spokeswoman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “We can confirm we attended. We were activated by North East Ambulance Service at 8.45am to Nunthorpe.”

Children had chance to look around the helicopter and have photographs taken once the emergency was dealt with.
