Paedophile caught trying to meet girl, 14, days after prison release

This video shows the moment paedophile hunters snared a repeat offender who arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex in the toilets of a railway station.

Paedophile Matthew Jenart asked to meet the girl, who told him she was a 14-year-old virgin, just 18 days after being released from prison for a string of sex offences including child abduction.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the 35-year-old, from Middlesbrough, believed he had been chatting online to two 14-year-old girls and a 12-year-old girl.

He asked one girl what time her mother would be home and told her ‘no underwear would make it easier’ when she agreed to meet him for sex earlier this year.

However he had in fact been communicating with members of undercover organisations Guardians of the North, Decoys UK and Dark Justice.

The court heard how Jenart had previously been jailed for six-and-a-half years in December 2015 after admitting eight offences including attempting to incite a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.

He was set to be released in April but had asked not to be because he was concerned he would not have the support to stop him from re-offending.

Elizabeth Muir, defending, said he was ‘open about his difficulties and his issues’ and had been cut off from his family for his crimes.

He pleaded guilty to facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and attempting to meet a child under 18 following sexual grooming.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to incite a child into penetrative sexual activity and an attempted breach of a sexual harm prevention order.

Judge Deborah Sherwin told Jenart he had learnt ‘nothing’ from his previous offences, which include child abduction, and jailed him for six years.
