A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenage cyclist was allegedly dragged under a car deliberately, police said.
Officers were called to Poplar High Street just before 7pm on Monday, following reports after the 17-year-old cyclist was involved in a collision.
Bystanders lifted the Ford Focus to free the teenager, who was trapped beneath its wheels following a suspected hit-and-run crash in east London.
Up to 10 passers-by rushed to the aid of the 17-year-old boy.
The driver is said to have fled on foot after smashing into a bollard in Poplar High Street.
The victim was taken to hospital initially in a critical condition and his injuries have been assessed as life-changing.
