Slowest police chase ever as ‘stolen’ tractor pursued at 14mph for 25 minutes – Mirror.co.uk
Footage has captured police chasing a tractor along country roads at 14mph.
Armed police were called after reports that the tractor was travelling with a shredded tyre and dim headlight on Thursday just before 11pm.
Officers found the tractor, which was carrying a trailer, weaving across the road near Gainsborough in Lincolnshire — sending sparks flying as it was driven on a wheel rim.
Incredible CCTV footage shows police cars in front and behind the tractor in an attempt to make it stop in the 25-minute chase, Lincolnshire Live reports.
The vehicle failed to stop while officers pursued it and eventually it was stopped by a road block of police cars at the Springthorpe junction near Corringham.
When patient officers finally managed to stop the tractor, a A 29-year man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a tractor, criminal damage to the highway, and failing to stop.
Superintendent Paul Timmins praised the armed police, control room staff and local officers for their work in halting what “had the potential to cause severe damage and was a risk to life”.
He told Lincolnshire Live: “The tractor was going at a slow speed and was weaving over both sides of the road.
“One of the tyres from the tractor or what it was towing was shredded and there were sparks at it was going along the road.
“The driver failed to stop and we pursued it at slow speed for 20 to 25 minutes.
“There is quite a lot of damage to the road surface from the wheel rim.
“We needed to stop the tractor before it reached a built-up area and I would rather have damage to a police vehicle than injury to members of the public or damage to property.”
One police car received minor damage as a result of the chase.
