Fort Myers Police are directing traffic after a fatal hit-and-run accident shut down both the north and southbound lanes of US 41 at the Sam’s Club intersection.
The driver of a vehicle fled on foot, according to a press release from FMPD.
A person, who was not identified, was arrested after a search involving officers, Lee County Sheriff deputies and the LCSO Aviation Unit, the press release said.
The southbound lanes at US 41 and Colonial Blvd. and the northbound lanes at US 41 and Boy Scout are closed as well.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Evidence Unit is still investigating the scene.
Witnesses at the scene declined comment.
