Jameel M. Ali, who was charged with shooting a man in Niagara Falls and then chasing the man’s car as the victim clung to the hood of the vehicle, pleaded guilty Thursday in Niagara County Court.
Ali, 25, of Maple Avenue in the Falls, admitted to second-degree assault and could be sentenced to as long as seven years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 3 by Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.
Ali drove up behind the victim’s car and shot him in the leg about 1:30 p.m. April 11 at 11th Street and LaSalle Avenue, prosecutors said after his arraignment April 24. The victim then jumped onto the hood of his car, which contained three other people. The vehicle drove off, with Ali’s auto in pursuit. He was accused of firing more shots and striking the victim’s car with one bullet, but there were no other injuries.
