One man was arrested and another has ended up in hospital after a police chase on one of Devon’s most notorious roads.
Officers received reports of a car driving dangerously on the A361 North Devon Link Road near Barnstaple at 10.15pm last night.
But when officers tried to pull the car over, it failed to stop – resulting in a pursuit from police.
The car then crashed into a wall and a police vehicle in nearby West Buckland, leaving one man injured.
Both occupants of the car were arrested and when officer searched their vehicle they discovered a “substantial amount of copper cable”.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police are investigating reports of dangerous driving on the A361 near Barnstaple at around 10.15pm on Wednesday 10 July.
“On searching the vehicle, a quantity of cable was located in the vehicle.
“A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and theft. He remains in police custody at this time.
“A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to hospital with multiple injuries, not believed to be life-threatening or changing.
“He was later de-arrested and remains in hospital at this time.”
The Alliance Roads Policing Team Tweeted about the incident afterwards, including a picture of the damage caused to the vehicles involved.
They said: “Pursuit in Barnstaple tonight on a blue VW Golf. Vehicle crashed in West Buckland.
“Two males arrested and substantial amount of copper cable recovered from the vehicle.”
