A driver is lucky to be alive after he was impaled by a massive metal rod during an accident in central China.

The man lost control of his pickup truck following a tyre burst and rammed into a row of metal barriers along a road in Xiaogan, Hubei province on Monday.

He was left skewered to the driver’s seat by a three-foot-long metal beam and unable to move. Despite the horrific injury to his shoulder, the man remained surprisingly composed as he waited to be rescued by firefighters.
