Three Chicago police officers have died by suicide this year, and Police Supt. Eddie Johnson and Mayor Lori Lightfoot are seeking more mental health treatment for police and other emergency responders, CBS 2 Chicago reports.
Johnson welcomed more than 100 mental health professionals from around the nation to Chicago on Wednesday to talk about ways to support officers, and help them maintain mental wellness. The two-day summit will focus on officer wellness, peer support and suicide prevention. Chicago police have teamed up with the University of Chicago Crime Lab to help with the discussion and create a plan moving forward. Last year, there were four suicides within the department.
