One man dead in deputy-involved shooting following car chase in Menifee – Press-Enterprise
One man was dead after a deputy-involved shooting at an intersection Menifee early Sunday that began with a law enforcement chase of a reported stolen vehicle, the Riverside County Sheriff reported.
There were few details available about the 6:30 a.m. incident. No deputies, other law enforcement, or members of the public — other than the man dead at the scene — were injured, Deputy Mike Vasquez said.
The department’s homicide unit will handle the case. Streets in the area of the shooting will be closed while homicide and forensic investigators work at the scene, the department said in a tweet. There was no estimate for when the streets will re-open.
Residents in the area near Menifee Road and Garland Lane “were awakened Sunday morning to the sounds of sirens, and rapid gun fire, (approximately) 20 shots.” Menifee resident Brent Trimmer said in an email, accompanied with a photo from the scene.
