A man is fighting for his life after he was stabbed in the arm and leg during a fight in south London.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Lammas Avenue, Mitcham, at 12pm on Tuesday following reports of two men fighting.

One man was subsequently rushed to hospital in “life threatening” condition.

A stop and search order is being enforced in the area, and an investigation is under way.

Police said: “A section 60 is in place in Mitcham following a stabbing this afternoon, Tuesday 21 May.

“Police were called to Lammas Avenue, CR4 at 12.00hrs to reports of two males fighting.

“Weapons were seen during the incident, which left one male with a leg and arm injury.

“He has been taken to hospital where his condition is being treated as life threatening.

“There have been no arrests made at this stage and a police cordon remains in place while initial investigations are carried out.”

The section 60 currently applies to Figges Marsh, Lavender Fields, Longthornton, Pollards Hill, Graveney and Cricket Green, the statement explained.

The London Ambulance service confirmed it had been called to the Upper Green East area at midday on Tuesday.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a car and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance,” a spokeswoman said.

“We treated a man at the scene and took him to hospital.”
