WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. (WTAP) – UPDATE: 5/20/19 3:40 P.M.

At least seven people were taken to area hospitals after a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 77 Sunday afternoon, and the driver could be facing a criminal charge, authorities said.

Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens said the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, which had 11 people inside, swerved to miss a pickup truck that was broken down and stopped in the northbound lane of traffic near the Emerson Avenue exit.

Witnesses told deputies the Tahoe had rolled over twice before coming to a rest on the shoulder of the northbound lane. It happened shortly before 3 p.m.

Stephens said one adult and six children were taken by ambulance to Marietta Memorial Hospital and WVU Medicine Camden Clark. None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Tahoe has not been identified, but Stephens said charges are being considered because some of the children might not have been properly restrained.

The crash remains under investigation.
