POLICE are appealing for information after a 91-year-old man in Trowbridge was targeted by burglars who stole a large amount of cash, as well as a collection of medals and badges.

The property in Newleaze, in Hilperton, was broken into overnight between 10.30pm on Tuesday, May 2 and 8.30am on Wednesday, May 3.

Two male suspects, one on foot and one on a bike, were seen in the area around the time of the burglary.

PC Aimee Jenkins, from Wiltshire West Community Policing Team, said the victim has been left distressed by the incident, particularly because he had lost items of such sentimental value.

She said: “The offender or offenders targeted an elderly man alone in his home and stole a number of items, including more than 50 metal cap badges which the victim had been collecting over 50 years.

“They also stole a number of medals, including a Hilperton ARP Defence Medal, a Hilperton ARP War Medal, a National Service Medal, a Cadet Forces Medal, and 12 Red Cross badges.

“We have been making enquiries with local shops and businesses, but also want to appeal to anyone who may have seen these items offered for sale.

“Also, if you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Hilperton area on the night in question, or if you have private CCTV or dash cam footage which may assist, then please contact police.”

Anyone with information should call PC Jenkins on 101, quoting crime reference 54190042380. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
