Multiple accidents have been reported along the whole stretch of the M4 in Wales this morning.
An accident closed two lanes of the westbound carriageway at Newport between J27 Highcross and J28 Tredegar Park. All lanes have now re-opened but there were delays reported until 9am.
There are also reports of a number of accidents on the M4 in Carmarthenshire. The main problem seems to be the amount of surface water between the Pont Abraham roundabout and J23 of the M48.
Chief Inspector Huw Jones, of Gwent Police, issued an urgent warning saying: “To all members of the public making their journeys today, please take care when travelling along stretches of the M4 in both directions. Weather has made travelling dangerous due to large amounts of standing water. “
An accident at Newport on the eastbound carriageway between J24 Coldra and J23A Magor Services has been cleared, but there is still a lot of congestion in the area.
There was also an accident at Bridgend on the eastbound carriageway between J36 Sarn and J35 Pencoed.
