EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Nassau County deputies slam into woman during car chase – ActionNewsJax.com

A local woman hit by a deputy’s truck said she’s thankful she’s alive.

“All of a sudden, I saw this car just out of control, just going crazy towards me about 85-100 miles per hour,” said Deborah Westhouse.

Westhouse said she tried to help, but she ended up getting hurt. She said she pulled over as soon as he saw the lights and sirens on South Fletcher Avenue. She even tried to tell deputies where the man they were chasing after went.

“All of a sudden I’m going like this, he went there, he went there,” she said.

But it was too late. A deputy’s truck crashed into her car.

“I was screaming and they were just coming at me full force,” Westhouse said.

Just minutes before the crash, Nassau County deputies said they pulled over William Ross, 27, at Peter’s Point Beach.

During Monday’s traffic stop, they said, he took off. And for about two miles, he led them on high-speed chase down Fletcher Avenue.

They said Ross made a sudden turn just before Westhouse, and one of the deputies said it was too late for him to stop.

The two deputies’ trucks collided and then crashed into Westhouse’s car. “I just can’t believe that they were coming so fast down Fletcher. It was like a movie. I’ve never experienced anything like this,” she said.

Westhouse was taken to a hospital. Physically, she’s OK – just sore.

But mentally, she’s shaken up.

“I’m thankful I’m here, and I feel good. I’m OK, but I’m not OK,” she said.

Westhouse believes the deputies were going too fast on a busy road with a lot of people in the area.

The Sheriff’s Office said the patrol staff is reviewing the incident.
