Two in custody following police chase through city, Gates – Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

A police chase that began in Rochester ended shortly before 1 p.m. when the suspects crashed their vehicle at Buffalo and Howard roads in Gates.

The intersection was closed for about an hour for an investigation.

Lt. Ralph Montinarelli said the incident started around noon when a pair of suspects stole a 2013 Honda CRV from Garland Avenue in a strong-arm robbery. Officers later spotted the car in the vicinity of Avenue E and the chase ensued.

During the chase, a Rochester police car crashed and caught on fire near Avenue E and Carthage Streets. 

Two people, a man and a woman, have been taken into custody. The man was driving, police said.

An ambulance was requested in Gates for two possibly injured civilians.
