Two arrested after terrifying police chase described as “like a Hollywood movie” – Liverpool Echo
Two men have been arrested after a dramatic police chase that witnesses described as like a “Hollywood movie”.
The car was spotted fleeing from police and turned onto the wrong side of the street as it tried to escape during the pursuit.
One witness said the chase looked like a scene from a Hollywood movie or “like Grand Theft Auto”.
The chase started on East Prescot Road after the car failed to stop for police.
Police found the stolen Ford Mondeo car, which was being driven on false plates, abandoned on Wynwood Road and after a search found cannabis inside.
Two men were detained on Saturday and it is thought police are still searching for two more in relation to the same incident.
A 17-year-old boy from Bolton was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft and a 26-year-old from Radcliffe was arrested on suspicion of cannabis possession with intent to supply.
Video from Saturday’s chase showed the car initially bring followed by a police car before the Matrix van joins the pursuit at the junction with Liverpool Road and Page Moss Avenue.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said:”We can confirm that two men were arrested following a brief pursuit in Huyton on Saturday, 23 March.
“At around 10.50am, a Ford Mondeo was seen to fail to stop in the East Prescot Road area, and following a brief pursuit the car was stopped on Wynwood Park and the occupants made off. Cannabis was located in the car and seized.
“A 17-year-old male from Bolton was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft, after enquiries in relation to the car established that it was on false plates and suspected of being stolen from a burglary in Manchester earlier in March.
“A 26-year-old man from Radcliffe was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply cannabis.
“Both males were released under investigation pending further enquiries.”
Speaking to the ECHO on Saturday one man said: “They were overtaking cars on the wrong side of the road and there’s police chasing them.
“The car was doing a loop around the estate. Someone else said it went around there from Liverpool Road at Huyton House Road. Then we saw the car coming back out.”
The dad added that it was lucky there wasn’t a crash during the chase.
He said: “It was pretty dramatic like a scene from Hollywood in Page Moss. Yeah, like Grand Theft Auto.”
“I spoke to my mum, showed her the video and she said it was a good job there wasn’t any oncoming traffic from the other way or cutting across the junction from the McDonald’s or there could have been a crash.
