Iraq: Integrity Commission chief dies in car accident – Middle East Monitor

The Chairman of the Iraqi Commission of Integrity, Judge Izzat Tawfiq Jaafar, died in a car accident in the northern Kurdish region yesterday.

“The head of the Judicial Integrity Commission, Izzat Tawfiq Jaafar, died in a traffic accident in Dohuk province,” the agency said in a statement.

He was transferred to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his wounds today, a medical source told Kurdistan 24.

The official of the General Directorate of Traffic in the province of Dohuk, Azad Taha, said Jaafar’s car collided with another as a result of heavy rain killing two people and injuring five others.

The independent Integrity Commission is linked to parliament and investigates corruption in official circles.

The Commission praised Jaafar’s “dedication in carrying out his duties to the nation. He never wasted a minute and was always keen to carry out the tasks entrusted to the organization with wisdom and knowledge.”

A Kurd, Jaafar was born in 1970 in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. He is survived by his wife and six children.
