As snow covered roadways throughout the Illinois Valley, accident reports were coming in rapidly after 12:45 p.m. Sunday, including one with a serious injury on Interstate 39.
At 1 p.m., Tonica firefighters and emergency medical technicians were called about a Jeep rollover with injury on Interstate 39 about a half mile south of the Tonica exit. A La Salle ambulance was requested, too. A second accident, with no injuries, occurred minutes later in the traffic back-up, as a vehicle entered a ditch, according to La Salle County Sheriff’s Office.
Tonica Fire Department issued a report, indicating that two people were ejected from the Jeep.
“(One) victim had been removed from under the Jeep by passers-by before emergency personnel arrived. Oglesby Paramedic Ambulance was called for mutual aid,” Tonica Fire Department reported. “Two people were transported to IVC Hospital with serious injuries by Tonica and Oglesby ambulances.”
There was partial lane blockage, and Tonica Fire Department cleared the scene after about an hour and a half.
Peru ambulance crews and a fire department rescue truck was were called to assist Dalzell Fire Department at a crash west of the Dalzell Blacktop on Richards Street at about 1:20 p.m.
Two accidents had been reported at about 1 p.m. in Spring Valley.
One accident involving a car and a snowplow, requiring firefighters’ assistance, was reported near 38th Street and Route 251 just before 1 p.m.
