A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found at her home in Wolverhampton.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at James Street, Bilston, before 6pm on Friday.
The 68-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and a man, aged 40, is being held for questioning.
DI Jim Colclough said: ‘This is a truly tragic incident in which a woman has been found dead inside her own home. Our thought are with the lady’s family and friends at this awful time.
‘A man known to her has been arrested and enquiries are underway.’
A police cordon is in place in James Street and another scene is being held by police in Dolloways Lane.
West Midlands Police said in a statement: ‘A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found at her home in Wolverhampton.
‘Police were alerted just before 6pm yesterday, 1 February, to a serious incident in James Street, Bilston.
‘West Midlands Police officers found the body of a 68-year-old woman at an address in James Street; unfortunately nothing could be done to save the woman and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
‘It’s hoped the precise cause of death will be determined by a post-mortem examination today.’
DI Colclough added: ‘We are carrying out house-to-house enquires but anyone with information is urged to get in touch with us by calling 101.’
