An officer was hit by a vehicle while investigating a deadly pedestrian accident, blocking I-75 North in Clayton County for hours Monday morning.

Clayton County police were on scene at C.W. Grant Parkway to investigate the pedestrian’s death. Multiple northbound lanes of I-75 just inside the Perimeter had been shut down since before 2:30 a.m.

“During our investigation, a vehicle, not involved with the accident, drove into the accident scene, striking one of our officers,” Clayton police spokeswoman Officer Marcena Davis said. “The officer was transported to a local hospital.”

The officer’s injuries are not life-threatening, according to police. Details about the pedestrian hit by a vehicle have not been released.

All lanes of I-75 North were shut down at C.W. Grant Parkway before 5 a.m., the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. Authorities started reopening lanes at 6:30 a.m.

Delays are still heavy starting back before Forest Parkway but are starting to improve. The Traffic Center suggests drivers exit the interstate at Tara Boulevard and use I-675 or Ga. 42 to avoid I-75.
