Prince George RCMP are treating the death of a man whose body was found in a ditch outside the city on Saturday as a homicide.
Mounties were called to West Lake Estates Road, just south of Prince George, at 1:30 p.m. after the body of a 40-year-old Prince George man was discovered in a ditch.
Investigators are treating the death as a homicide and the RCMP’s North District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
The victim’s name has not been released.
Police say they do not believe it was a random event.
Investigators are trying to determine if the man’s death is connected in anyway with an abandoned vehicle fire that police attended Saturday morning on Chilako Station Road, off Highway 16 in the Beaverly area, just west of the city.
Police are asking anyone with information about suspicious vehicles or persons on West Lake Estates Road, Blackwater Road, Lower Mud River Road, Chilako Station Road or McBride Timber Road on the morning of Jan. 12 to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
