LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man is facing a felony death by vehicle charge after an accident on Sunday that killed a 25-year-old man, according to the state Highway Patrol.
According to a report by Trooper D.P. Stubbs, Otis Quennel Tyndall, 42, of Tar Heel Road, was driving while impaired when the two-vehicle accident occurred at Owen Road and N.C. 41 about two miles north of Lumberton at about 9:10 p.m.
Warrants have been issued for Tyndall’s arrest, according to the patrol.
According to the report, Tyndall was alone and driving west on Owen Road in a 1997 Honda SUV when he failed to yield at the intersection and was struck while attempting a left-hand turn onto N.C. 41 by a 1998 Mercury Marquis that was traveling north.
Tyndall and the two occupants of the Mercury passenger vehicle, Stephen Madison Platt, 27, of West 23rd Street in Lumberton, who was the driver; and 25-year-old Devonta’ Marques Irons of Harty Road in Lumberton, were all injured and taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center for treatment. Irons died the next morning at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, according to the Highway Patrol.
All three people involved in the accident were properly restrained, according to the report. Each vehicle sustained about $5,000 worth of damage.
