A man paid his girlfriend £64,000 for making and providing child pornography images and videos of a vulnerable girl aged just two.
Andrew Barker, of Dog Kennel Lane in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire met 28-year-old Paula Dos-Reis through work before the pair embarked on a romantic relationship in 2012.
The 53-year-old then paid Dos-Reis, of Greencroft Gardens in Enfield, north London, to provide abuse images, extreme pornography and videos of herself with a child over a period of four years.
The victim was aged between two and six years old during the couple’s horrific campaign from 2014 to 2017.
She is now receiving specialist support but will suffer long-term trauma as a result of her ordeal, a police spokesperson confirmed.
The duo were finally apprehended after a National Crime Agency investigation exposed their years of abuse.
‘This toxic relationship thrived off the sickening abuse of a very young child with Dos-Reis brazenly profiting financially and Barker funding the abuse for his own twisted pleasure,’ an NSPCC spokesman said.
‘What’s paramount is that the victim is receiving continued support and that those responsible for their suffering undergo treatment while behind bars to lessen the risk they pose to children in the future.’
At Luton Crown Court, Dos-Reis and Barker admitted a string of offences, including causing a child aged under 13 years old to engage in sexual activity, possession of extreme pornography and making and distributing indecent images of children from January 2011 to June 2017.
Judge Andrew Goymer described the pair’s crimes as ‘horrendous’ on November 26.
Dos-Reis was jailed for six years, while Barker will serve a sentence of six years and nine months.
They have both been also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 12 years.
‘Our main priority in this case was safeguarding the young victim who is now safe and is continuing to receive specialist support as the actions of Dos-Reis and Barker will have a life-long impact on her,’ Detective Sergeant Mike Birch, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Child Online Safeguarding Team, said.
‘Although Dos-Reis and Barker have now been jailed this is not where the case ends as we are now working to seize the money Dos-Reis received under the Proceeds of Crime Act.’
A spokesman for Herfordshire Constabulary added: ‘A man and a woman who worked together to abuse a child have been jailed.
‘Paula Dos-Reis, aged 28 years, and Andrew Barker, aged 53 years, both admitted a string of offences.
‘The pair had struck up a relationship which later developed into Dos-Reis providing abuse images and videos of her with a child in return for payments.
‘The victim was aged between two and six years old when the abuse took place. In total Dos-Reis received around £64,000 in payments from Barker.’
