According to police, just before midnight a man called police to tell them he saw two men trying to steal his dirt bike.
Before police could arrive, there was a confrontation and the two men took off on the bike and the owner chased them in his car. Shots were fired. When they reached 151st Street and 24th Avenue in Miami Gardens, the driver hit both men with his car.
One of the men died of a gunshot wound. The other was found dead near a home where the vehicles came to a stop, and police haven’t said whether it was caused by the crash or a gunshot wound.
“He sees the subjects with the bike and gives chase with a car,” said Miami Gardens spokesperson Carolyn Frazer. “There’s an accident and shots were fired. One of them takes off, collapses and dies.”
Alicia Brown told the station one of the victims was her 18-year-old nephew. “His mother is just overwhelmed right now because that was her only son. This is something that she’s not going to live down.”
The owner of the dirt bike is on the scene and coopering with the police.
