Walworth shooting: Man left fighting for life after being shot before night of Halloween violence
A man is fighting for his life after being shot in south-east London during a day of Halloween bloodshed.
Police descended on an apartment block in Walworth shortly after midday on Wednesday, after paramedics alerted them to a seriously injured man.
They found a 48-year-old at the scene in Cuxton House, Mina Road, suffering from a “gunshot injury”.
He was rushed to hospital where he remained in a critical condition on Thursday.
Officers from Southwark have launched an investigation into the shooting, while the victim’s next of kin have been informed.
“At this early stage the man’s injuries are unexplained,” said a Scotland Yard spokesperson.
In a separate incident, a 38-year-old man was stabbed to death in nearby Southwark Park just before 2pm on Wednesday.
Rocky Djelal, 38, was found near the entrance of the park after collapsing next to a children’s playground.
Witnesses said a fight broke out in the park next to the play area before a man was heard screaming “in agony.” Ambulance crews called to the park tried to save him but he died at the scene.
Two men were also rushed to hospital after being shot during an altercation in a residential street in Crystal Palace.
Police were called just before 6pm to reports of a fight in Lunham Road, at the junction with Victoria Crescent.
Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting, Scotland Yard said.
Rappers Krept and Konan appeared to be filming a music video in the location of the shooting just hours beforehand. Responding to the incident on Twitter, Krept said the shooting was “nothing to do with us”.
