Richmond RCMP say a stolen piece of industrial equipment used to remove asbestos could pose a danger to the public — and to the thieves who stole it.

The OmniAire 2000, a machine that filters asbestos and other hazardous airborne contaminants from demolition sites, was stolen Tuesday morning from a work site in the 100 block Westminster Highway. Structures at the site were scheduled for demolition and industrial equipment was brought in to assist in the process.

Anyone with information about this incident, or anyone who has located this machine, is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote police file #2018-34877.

Breathing in asbestos fibres can cause cancer and other diseases.

Police are asking the public to avoid contact with the machine without proper safety equipment.
