HOOVER, Ala. —
Hoover Police say a 13-year-old is in custody following a burglary at a gun shop Monday night.
Officers responded to a burglary alarm at Hoover Tactical Firearms on Montgomery Highway around 10:10 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a window shattered and damage to a display case, but the suspect had already left.
A Vestavia Hills patrol later found a juvenile hiding at a car dealership on Montgomery Highway. The suspect matched the burglar description and had a stolen handgun on him. He was taken into custody and later led Hoover officers to four other stolen handguns hidden behind two businesses.
The case was taken to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office who issued petitions against the 13-year-old for 3rd degree burglary and 1st degree theft of property.
The suspect’s identity is being withheld due to his age.
