EZEL Conde was fighting to make it to the podium and was picking up speed as she neared the finish line of the 42nd Milo Marathon. But also gaining speed was driver Abel Tanjay, who hit Conde, to end her Milo Marathon bid, in an early morning accident near P. Del Rosario Street on October 14.

The victim, Conde, 22, is a regular in the local running scene and was competing in the 10K event, when she was hit by a car driven by the 19-year-old Tanjay.

Tanjay was suspected drunk but his liquor test, done by a medical examiner, came out negative.

PO2 Levi Ronel Lepetin, the traffic investigator at the Parian Police Station 1 said that Tanjay’s alcohol intake, alcohol breath, conjuctival injection and Romberg’s tests all came out negative.

Lepetin said Tanjay was not detained but they are waiting for the victim’s family to file a report.

According to organizer Ricky Ballesteros, Conde could have made it to at least the Top 5.

Conde suffered from contusions on the left side of her body. She was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital and her condition was declared stable.

Ballesteros said that Tanjay promised to shoulder all the medical expenses. He added that Tanjay took Conde to UC Medical Center to have her CT scan and x-rays taken. (MCB)
