A motorist has been taken to hospital with what paramedics are describing as “critical injuries” following a serious crash on the A6 Alvaston Bypass.
The road closed from the Blue Jay to Thulston roundabout for more than four hours while emergency services dealt with the incident, but was fully reopened at 4.40pm.
Two paramedic cars, a crewed ambulance and an air ambulance were sent to the scene, and a patient was rushed to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by land ambulance.
Traffic information service Inrix said there was slow traffic on Raynesway and Google Traffic reported severe delays around the scene of the crash.
Other affected roads in the area included Shardlow Road and London Road.
