A Bridgeville man died Friday night after receiving serious head trauma while working at the Allen Harim chicken plant in Harbeson, state police say.
Police still are investigating, but said they believe the 59-year-old employee was trying to change the battery on a pallet jack and was struck by it as it was being lowered.
The replacement battery was secured to an electric hoist and being lowered by a lever, police said. But it got hung up on the corner of another battery sitting next to the jack, police said. The employee leaned forward to guide it off the obstruction, police said.
When he did, the battery came down and struck him, police said.
He was taken to Beebe Hospital and died from his injuries, police said.
State police said they don’t release the names of victims in industrial accidents.
