HOUSTON – A fatal accident has shut down the area near an inbound entrance ramp just north of 1960.
According to police, the accident happened around 3:34 a.m. Thursday near I-45 North Freeway and Cypresswood.
A 33-year-old motorcyclist is believed to have lost control of his bike while getting onto the freeway and hit the guardrail, police said.
A witness pulled over when the accident happened and believes the motorcyclist was alive after the initial crash.
According to police, after the accident a driver ran over the motorcycle hitting only the bike, then someone in a black SUV ran over the motorcyclist and the motorcycle and kept driving.
The 33-year-old was dead when authorities arrived, police said.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office posted a tweet saying they are looking for a newer-model black GMC Terrain or a similar vehicle with damage.
Police have completely shut down a portion of the feeder road ahead of the entrance ramp.
The scene remains active and will likely cause problems for the morning commute for many drivers heading in from the Woodlands or Spring.
The main lanes are now moving smoothly, but KPRC2 traffic reporter Jennifer Reyna is advising to avoid the service road since it remains shut down.
