A woman in her 40s is in critical condition in Cork University Hospital after a fall from her bicycle in Cork on Sunday morning.
The cyclist suffered serious head injuries in the fall, which occurred at Gurteen Cross Roads in Bandon just before 9am.
She was rushed to Cork University hospital where she is in critical condition. It is believed the woman fell when she hit a pot hole.
Gardai said there was no other vehicle involved in the collision.
Investigations are ongoing.
Gardai said in a statement: “Gardaí were called to an incident this morning the 30th of September 2018 at the Gurteen Cross Roads, Bandon Co Cork. A female cyclist (40s) received serious head injuries and was brought to Cork University where her condition is thought to be critical.
“There was no other vehicle involved in the collision. Investigations are on-going. The Road between Baxters Bridge on the R586 & Gurteen Cross Roads remains closed.”
The news follows two serious collisions on Irish roads overnight.
Two pedestrians, a 31-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were injured following a collision involving a car at at Breaffy, Castlebar at approximately 10.50pm last night.
The female pedestrian received serious head injuries and the male pedestrian and the driver of the car both received minor injuries.
And a male pedestrian is his 30s was killed following a collision involving a van on the Nass Road inbound at Kingswood Co Dublin at at approximately 4.15.
