CMPD to analyze blood sample left behind during burglary at business

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives are looking for a man who broke into the Crown Clinic in Lower South End and swiped two laptops containing tens of thousands of dollars worth of medical software.

The thief scaled the fence at about 4 a.m. Friday to gain access to the medical building off of South Tryon Street near Woodlawn Road.

He then disabled the alarm, grabbed a brick and threw it through a window.

The burglar used a rug from the outside to lay atop the window sill to protect him from shards of broken glass. However, his blood was collected from the window.

He was caught on camera, but his face was covered.

Only two computers were stolen, but they contained the very expensive medical software.

“What he did was very deliberate,” Dr. Obi Oriaku said. “He wasn’t searching. He came in and, one-two-three, was out the door.”

CMPD is analyzing the blood sample in this case.

Personal patient information was not compromised because the data is all encrypted, Oriaku said.
